"Plant Hope" Poem

In loving memory of my father, Calvin C. Hill, Jr. who planted hope
as a Oklahoma City firefighter, humanitarian, community activist, friend, grandfather, and son
April 4, 1954 - April 1, 2007
Plant Hope

From where we sow
Hope will grow
Into so much more
That only God will know

Where we plant hope’s seeds
We must pull the weeds
We must tend to their needs
Or surely they will die indeed

Hope can only grow
Where love has been sowed
To expect otherwise
Shouldn’t come to no surprise
When love with the best
It will stand tall among the rest
That’s the goal to settle for nothing less

Where hope grows
The soil has been kissed by
the God who lives on high
Who only knows
That when firmly planted in peace
Where weeds shall cease

To exist in the love tapped soil
Where love will not recoil
As it sprouts from the seeds of hope
Sheltering us from the storm as we cope
